QUICK HELP ... PLEASE... I need URGENT TRAVEL recommendations.
« on: February 08, 2019, 01:26:29 PM »
I just realised I need to book a local flight by 16:00 today or loose it.... a free R4000 flight voucher I got with a Samsung purchase.

I have NO desire too go away for a few days... I've honestly JUST come back from holiday and will again go to CPT for Easter...

And apparently I can't gift it either....

so... If I want to fly out early on a Sunday... and fly back late the same night.... what can I do that will make it worth the trip. Pref,  CPT, DURBAN, MAY GEORGE OR PE... as I think they flights would be more readily available

QUICK QUICK !!!!

PS: prefer not to rent a car either...

In Cape Town, this weekend, you can

Two Oceans Aquarium at the Waterfront
Silo Market at the Waterfront
Helicopter trip from the Waterfront
Cape Town Art Fair at the CTICC
Hot Air Balloon at Paarl
District Six Museum
SA Jewish Museum

Apart from Paarl, these are in the Waterfront or in the city.  But you will need a car, or get into town on the shuttle and UBER to the Waterfront, which is quite close

The Franschhoek wine tram has a shuttle from the airport and back. Definitely something fun for a Sunday!

I don't know if it's fully booked or if they have shuttles to get to the train, but there is also a steam train that travels from CT to Elgin Station and there is a great market there as well.

Steamtrain to Elgin highly recommended. Crossing Sir Lowry’s pass by steamtrain is an unforgettable experience. Staff are all volunteers-barman’s day job is longhaul airplane captain. Provided you wear close shoes, extra 200 bucks gets  you a footplate ride.

Thanks all.... the ideas above have been placed on my to-do list for easter weekend....

.... as the earliest flighht to cape town arrived at around 11:00... half the day gone already. SSo had to scrap that idea.

I've decided to try and book Drb flights for comrades weekend... or at least subsidise it. Lets see.

Ok... so much for that. I will be forfeiting R4000.

Why? because I REFUSE TO GIVE MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER AND SECURITY CODE VERBALLY TO A SALES PERSON, WHILST BEING RECORDED!!!!! seriously? in the 21st century they have NO OTHER MEANS of payment.... no EFT, not online payment, NOTHING.

Take it or leave was the attitude... I left it.  My voucher expires today... should I take it further as a matter of principle???

I needed to pay in R1400ish...

Judy,

It's only a voucher, take a deep breath and relax :)

Just think: No hurried traffic jams, no irritating crowd, no unpleasant jerk sitting next to you on the planes to and fro... What a pleasure! Easily worth R4k :)

yeah... no biggy... I was over it very quickly.  It was not the voucher that got to me... but the pure audacity of the payment method that got to me!

BUT THEN... my brilliant husband in all his logical glory chirped in from the side line " hey, why dont you just book two flights through the voucher (R3600 ish - so you waste/forfeit the change) and then book the third online through the kulula/discovery portal?"  :headbanger:

I did... and all sorted now... and I actually saved R100
