What is involved or needed so users can uplaod photos directly to the forum, without having to first post on a image sharing website like photobucket
As Im sure there are many forum users that will appreciate it if this could be implemented

this subject comes up once a year .... but for your information - members were abusing the facility when it was available and the bandwidth cost increases .... and im sure we dont want the person paying for the forum to have to increase his costs too much because additional space required on the server for those pictures will definitely cost him more money

its easy enough to use instead of photobucket .... and its free .... the only time it will cause problems is for people using their phones to post (but then Tapatalk seems to do a good job of photos there)

If the owner of the site has a change of heart then im sure he will inform us, but he decided to stop it ages ago and its left entirely up to him ..... nothing that the rest of us say on the issue really matters until he decides that it does  :nfi:

Been successfully loading pictures via Imgur and others, but these are still images

Is there a simple way to display a short (under 30 seconds) video?  I know anyone can upload to YouTube and right-click to get an URL,  but a URL by itself in a post does not look appealing

I usually google it to get a screenshot / the Youtube image.

Regardless of the length, it just requires that forum system supports embedded media players.  No significant cost ito forum host disk space.

New / recently developed forum systems include support for Instagram post embedding,  Reddit post embedding,...

The most radical change for me has been BCMTouring forum, changed to XenForo system a few months ago. can upload the usual way via Windows Explorer select the image file, or you can copy to clipboard and paste in the forum post editor; [automated] it uploads the image, creates an image attachment and inserts it into the post editor.  Then you can add a link/URL to the pic.
So, with a browser add-on that lets you select part of the screen for a screenshot, you can then just copy-paste it into the forum post editor - no need to crop it and save it as a file first.

PS:  That forum, costs of website hosting and forum software entirely covered by Google/Adsense ads.  Hosted at USA-based hosting service, although the forum owner lives in India.
