This can be a suggested fix, or for someone to come to site and earn a couple of hundred bucks
Friend is a photographer, dealing with mainly school pictures. He operates from his home in Wynberg, Cape Town
There are 4 PCs
PC-2 is the main computer. The idea is to store the incoming pictures on PC-2 and two ladies who do editing, access the files over the network
PC-1 and PC-2 are connected to a ADSL router.
The ADSL router is connected to a switch in another room (actually an ADSL router with DHCP disabled)
Off the switch there are 2 more PCs, PC-3 and PC-4
From PC-2 I can ping all the others. They get their address from the ADSL router
On WIndows Explorer the other 3 PCs are shown on the Network tab
I cannot connect from PC-2 to PC-1, likewise I cannot connect from PC-3 and PC-4 to either PC-1 or PC-2
The error shown is "Windows cannot access" \\PC-1 cannot be found
PC-1 and PC-2 run Windows 10 Enterprise
PC-3 is Windows 7 Professional
PC-4 is WIndows 10 Enterprise
Network share is on
Drive and folders are shared for "Everybody" with full access
Network discovery is on
Workgroup is the same for all
The network does not have a Domain
Checked all the cables with a network cable tester, all 8 lights come on in correct order
All the PCs can access the Internet
The ADSL router is 192.168.1.1
DHCP on the second router is disabled
I note that Windows 10 no longer has a Homegroup facility
Have not fiddled with the Registry
Thank you
