An omni-directional design with an upward firing full range.
Do you know the impedance?  Some were 800 ohms

They could be late 1950s to mid 1960s. The Novo sonic line started around 1956 I think

Prof Manfred Reineck has a pair of these.   He is in Tamboerskloof.   Not much definition I thought and sounded like a tweeter was disconnected.

He has a Blaupunkt amp and a record changer

I had a pair of those a while back. Up firing yes, into a metal cone placed directly above the driver. Which if I remember correctly, was a 16w 8". Could be wrong on that. Made a deal with KK for these, so maybe speaking to him might not be a bad idea.

I went to Prof Reineck's house in October last year since he told me he was moving and remembered that had I admired those Philips units

Alas, they had been put in an outside room where the roof leaked and the timber was swollen up (it is veneered chipboard).  I connected a battery to the large driver but both were open circuit.  He subsequently dumped them
