True, courier costs to SA is a killer. Keep your eyes on the DIY Marketplace, there are gems at very good prices at times. Patience is a virtue...

Yes. I have a few pairs of Seas and Scan-Speak drivers resting on a shelf here, yet I fear selling them when I am reminded of the cost of importing them. Probably close to R5k per tweeter for the Scan-Speak Illuminators at this point.

therefor a set will cost out to approximately R 2200   add X over parts (350  / 3500 Hz) and box materials and you have a lovely 3 way which will compare to 5+  times that cost of a bought speaker easy

But they always come at a time when I dont have cash to spare.

This is the worst part.

I still remember when Gearslave was clearing out his garage a few years ago he sold what likely amounts to about R30 000 of new Scan-Speak drivers for R10 000. I couldn't afford them at the time, but wished that I could.

I know that feeling all too well ... It is my belief that all things happen for a reason and a good reason. Think it made you more determined and as a consequence you are now more educated regarding drivers.

I just purchased a pair of 1940s field coil loudspeakers though so that is how it goes.
It's called life ...

In hindsight it is not upsetting that I didn't buy the above mentioned Scan-Speak drivers as I prefer high efficiency transducers for use with low power valve amps now, which contributes to the cynical voice in my mind commenting on my "hoarding" of very similar Scandinavian drivers on my shelf at the moment.

Spill the beanz?  ^-^
