Just had a WhatsApp from a friend in the same block as me.  Power went off at 10am (our schedule said midday) and is still not back.  The problem is likely the switching on and off destroys the distribution at the municipality and will increase maintenance costs no end.

The switch gear is also old and defunct adding to the mayhem.

City of CT electricity teams are tearing around repairing burnt and inoperative switchgear.  Passed by a substation in Muizenberg, there were 4 lorries parked outside and a fork-lift truck manouvering something large out the door

So, failure to plan, failure to properly do maintenance...leads to extra costs incurred.

+ Incompetent executive management + looting and inappropriate spending...increasing financial debt...

No wonder mybroadband's clickbait today says "How far is ESKOM from total black-out?"

Maybe the only good thing is that we escaped the Russian power plant deal.

Funny how people say things like "Chinese rubbish" and "Fong Kong"...strikes me that SA would be much better off if some things were outsourced to China SoE. Totally outsourced, Chinese style, no "technology transfer" / BEE bs.  Just pay them and get the job done.  Police services too.

On friday and saturday the power was off for almost 12 hours, yesterday also very long time off.
Only today it was off for about 5 hours.
Drives me nuts.

I saw front page news stories yesterday - one Gupta associate deleted, drive-by shooting, sprayed his car.  CEO [?] of some mining company heavily in debt, I think it said due to be liquidated.  I wonder who did it.

Generator just kick in here in Goodwood as load shedding started at 16h00, Cape Town at a cost of R32K in repairs over the last two weeks. Some assholes broke into it twice over the last three weeks. First break in they stole the batteries and some cables and broke all the locks. Second break in the stole the batteries as well as the radiator and caused substantial damages including breaking all the locks again. Our local security company caught the guy, got him to confess then handed him over to the local police. He was released within two hours because the police could not find the case numbers we opened up against him as it was 3am and the detectives on the case were not contactable. :headbanger: :headbanger:

Additional cost of R8K to upgrade security beams around the generator. Possible additional costs of R25K to build a  steel cage around the generator.

Total unplanned costs because of Eskom R65K!!!

Sjo! I know steel is very expensive but R25K, it must be a very big generator.
Rest of the story quite familiar, including the police.

It is a 60kva 3 phase generator with 400 liter fuel tank. So yes it is big. Also cage needs to be galvanised and installed
