FTGH: Optoma HD72 with failed lamp
« on: November 28, 2018, 09:00:58 AM »
My Optoma HD72 has finally gone dark... probably the known problem of the ballast fault (Optoma was quietly replacing them free if customers had problems) which causes short lamp life.

I gather the part is about $90 and a new lamp about $120.

If anyone has access to easy sources of parts, then its an easy fix (detailed guide here http://rob.com/rob/audio/ann-10-proj/ReplacingLamp.pdf).

It was a great projector in it's time. 720p and 1024x768 native resolution, 7-segment colour wheel so had really smooth playback of fast action scenes.

Pick up only.

Any chance of converting to LED light source?
I'd like to try if the other two takers before me fall out.
So count me in line please
