Been busy looking at the best option to replace the Quad 303 output capacitors with. Audio grade electrolytics from Elna, Nichicon were my first choice, but then I looked again at the specs.
Both have a lifetime of 1000 hours at the rated temp of 85C. This with the Elna having to have the polarity reversed every 250 hours!
If you are a firm believer (as am I) that you leave your electronics on to ensure the components and PCBs remain at the same temp, then 1000 hours becomes a number to seriously look at. We can make some lengthy sums to determine the maximum days this is, but at a first glance, 1000 hours at 55C will be approximately
2^[(85C - 55C)/10C] = 2^3 = 8x 1000h = 8000h
8000h/24=333 days which is approximately a year. Way to short for me!
I would like to hear the opinion of the experts on this one!
