Is modern vinyl any different?

I've been interested to see the whole vinyl revival in local music stores when many of them have closed down or downsized due to the decline in CD sales. Having grown up in the 90's I just missed the vinyl area and started listening to music on tape. Always been intrigued by vinyl and the purists saying it still produces the best sound quality, which I'm sure lends itself to numerous fiery debates.. :rubhands:

That being said, seeing pop albums from the 80's and early 90's like Depeche Mode and Madonna sold in stores now in 2018, on brand new vinyl, I wonder if these LP's are better now (due to more modern manufacturing?) or if I had the same, original, vinyl produced in e.g. the 80's, which would sound better?

Or have they just dusted off the old vinyl pressing machines from back then and still using exactly the same technology as when Elvis Presley LP's were churned out in the 60's?
