i'm just a little curious here.
i have always heard about valve amps needing to warm up. i have had 2 exclames, & a predator, all hybrids, & have experienced the warm up impact to be so small as to be almost negligible. (possibly due to the fact that they always stay on internally even when switched off?)
recently i acquired a unison research simply two, which is a full valve amp.
i am now experiencing the warm up to be extremely noticeable, with the amp sounding a little ragged around the edges for the first half hour or so, & then it settles into a smooth, well defined sound.
so all as expected from what i have heard.
what i do find a little puzzling is that the warm up period only seems to really happen if i am playing music for that period. if i switch the amp on & leave it to just warm up prior to playing music then it still sounds off for the first half hour or so.
is this how the warm up period is supposed to happen? i always thought that leaving the amp switched on for a while would suffice as a warm up period.

i am really, really enjoying the sound once it warms up though.
