So, I was digging into my tape collection last night and giving the Yamaha KX-390 some love. So what is the negative side to this? From a small batch of cassettes that I have tried, it seems that the commercial (pre-recorded) SA ones are ageing badly in terms of the mechanisms. Tension issues / excessive friction etc. No, they were not stored in a hot garage/ Not one of my home recorded cassettes (some from the early eighties!) have these issues. Admittedly my home recorded cassettes are all Denon/Sony/BASF/Maxell/TDK, but did not think the local cheapies were that bad...
