That's an interesting one! Had I not just bought a Stax set I would jump at this!

The Koss ESP/950 is legendary.

Quote
The Koss ESP/950 is an exceptional product. It is just slightly euphonic at the frequency extremes compared with the similarly priced Stax, but its overall sound, in particular its ravishing midrange, puts it in the top class of headphones. It is unfailingly musical, and, disregarding the whole issue of headphones clamped over the ears, generates less listening fatigue than any other transducer I can think of. There were a few quirks in its operation (the matter of the junction box is still open to possible update), but on sonic grounds I can't recommend it highly enough. As much as I respect the Stax Signatures—and I would likely reach for them first if I wanted to analyze a recording or line-level component—for pure musical pleasure the Kosses are easily their match, and perhaps more.

At $499 this is a very tempting proposition, and just as I'm considering investing in Stax too.  :Ooooooh:

What gives me pause though is the large number of reported issues with the E/90X Electrostatic Energizer.
No such problems with the SRM-252S.

That does look interesting, although I wonder if it’s sinply not possible to design electrostats that don’t look like they’ve just come from a 70s fashion catalogue

I wonder how much those would be landed in SA?

You'd need to use a forwarding service like AGS or MyUS since Massdrop doesn't ship to SA.
Or ask Scott for a quote if you don't feel like the schlepp.

Thanks, but I will let it pass. Need (means the same as "want", not so?) to upgrade my espresso grinder first.

I think you "need" to get your priorities straight...

I've always liked these, but my research pointed that these did have some issues when it came to reliability, so while they are priced very good, just keep in mind if you need the support.

They do have a poor rep when it comes to QC, to the extent that Koss offers a (limited) lifetime warranty.
Great if one lives in the US
