what is the purpose of a plinth ?
« on: August 29, 2018, 09:19:20 PM »
Fellow Vinylists

Is a plinth for a turntable really neccessary ? Does it have purpose other than being  a mechanical support structure ? If one could make the plinth sonically/acoustically transparent, minimal resonance, would this be desireable ? Same goes for a tonearm...if it could be made sonically transparent, such that it disappears to a degree,  would this be desireable?

No
Sometimes
Maybe

It is a tonearm. It must have a tone. If it has no tone it is a SME V. I used to love the SME V,then I got some tone in my life. My life is much better now it has some tone in it. In fact my world resonates with colouration and I like it.If I need a little colourless and grey I stream  some numbers.
