Perceived Value VS Actual Value

Having just read the thread on Forum Ethics I had the following come to mind.


Here is the scenario:


A member offers a brand new product for sale.
They state that the retail value is  say R 4,000.00 and that as a "Special" they are asking only R 2,500.00
The direct implication is that you as consumer are saving R 1,500.00.


One does a quick price check on Google and finds that 3 other suppliers are selling the very same item for R 3,295.00.
So the actual saving is around R 700.00.


Having almost purchased from the forum member, even though his price is arguably better that what the standard retail, does one not feel mislead? What was made out to be Great Saving is in reality just an ok saving.
Suddenly I don't have the urge to buy anymore.


What are your thoughts?
