Let's get the thread back on topic

Like mentioned, I'm interested in the Charios but cannot listen to them, hence the input required regarding their sound signature and amp preference.

I have to choose between these two

I told you all there is to know re the Charios... they do not do rock, pop/rock well at all and they'll really struggle with it at volume.  Other than that they're warm and romantic so great for vocals and jazz.  Based on your expressed music preferences I think they'll be a poor match.

I have another setup with floorstanders I can play rock and 80's stuff on, so not really an issue. I also listen a lot to jazz, acoustic guitar and female vocal. How would Chris Rea, Chris Isaak, Steve Strauss, Blackmore's Night etc sound on them? Will they cope with that?

I tend to go loud sometimes and the Golds can handle that quite good. Thanks, so that's one negative then.

Yes, only the Italians do the hardwood sides that well...not so keen about the furry paint over MDF on some though!

I agree though that if you listen to Rock they're not well suited but perfect for vocals, jazz and classics.

According to my :angrywife: if a speaker does not look good it is not a good speaker. When choosing speakers, I have to make sure they look good too. So if it was me, the Charios will be the ones to go for.

If you listen with your eyes that would be correct😉

I'm definitely big into aesthetics when it comes to speakers. To me a speaker is a piece of furniture/ art. It has to look good while sounding good. I have a tendency to just stare at speakers and just admire them so I too would be inclined to go for the Charios, on a nice set of stands they would look really good, nothing beats the look of real wood.

Chario compared to Sonus Faber always been the less beautyful product but by far the better designed.....especially when it come to more than 2 way speakers.
Can any bookshelf speaker really perform well & loud on Rock or Electronic. I m doubting this.....(not what is loud to my taste).

So I believe the Lynx are really pretty and well performing speaker - but if you have a chance to get a 2nd hand Academy 1...thats the thing to go for..
