infinity speakers
« on: July 10, 2018, 02:48:30 PM »
I'm trying to find these but i'm not winning....

this is back in approx 1996, they looked very similar to the renaissance 90 but they had one or two electrostatic tweeters / midrange and then a woofer (with a big box behind the woofer) that's the best i can describe them

i have looked at all the speakers in hifiengine relating to those years - cannot find it

Not the "Servo Statik 1?"  This is 1996

Model 2000A better fits description but it's from 1971

nope not those - its tall like the renaissance but that box for the woofer is its only distinguishing part that makes it different from the rest.....

Check Infinity IRS Gamma.  Not sure if this is what you meant by Box behind woofer.   This is normal speaker design, just the electrostat tweeter extends from on top the box.  The box is for woofer and mid, so quite normal.

They like the IRS Gamma - but the "box" is only on the woofer - and not the 2.5 either.

AFAIK Infinity never made another electrostatic after the Servostatik. They did build numerous speakers with planar magnetic drivers though. 1996 was around the time they introduced the Prelude . Shape wise they were as you describe but with conventional drivers. Stunning sound from this high efficiency design with powered bass drivers.

Other possibility is the IRS Delta in the first pic.

I have seen them and heard them. They used ribbons for the mid range and tweeters on an Oak baffle with the woofers in a sealed cabinet. But I cannot remember what the were called. The best person to ask would be Harold Day. I am not in contact with him but one of our members supplied another member with his contact details. I believe he bought amps from Sckalk, so he ought to know too.
