Android TV boxes
« on: July 06, 2018, 10:49:17 AM »
Hi everyone,

I want to purchase an Android TV box to stream DStv Now. I have seen both the Xiaomi Mibox and the Mygica ATV495Max (which is DStv certified).

Can someone who owns these boxes tell me if you can download content from DStv Catchup onto the device from within the DStv Now app?

The Xiaomi seems more future proof in terms of being Google Certified (which DStv requires for installing the app). So I am leaning towards this one.

Thanks!

AFAIK the only boxes certified for DSTV Now are the Shield and the MiBox.

The Android TV version of Now does not offer download and watch later.

Chromecast works with DSTV
Even duct tape can’t fix stupid… but it can muffle the sound

What brand is the LIT box?

It's made a company called SDMC and model is DV8219

Recently the SDMC company has published sensational information (for fans and TV Boxes distributors), SDMC has received Android TV official certification for one of its TV Boxes, contributing to make SDMC become the third authorized company in China after ZTE and Xiaomi

I am using the Xiaomi MiBox and it works flawlessly. Software recently updated to Google TV 8.
You cannot download anything ahead of time though. Think none of the Android software apps allow that.
I am using it for Netflix,  DSTV Now, Showmax and the normal youtube etc.
I think the Telkom LIT Box may still have issues with Netflix, but might have been resolved by now.

As long as I can still enjoy the music I'm happy.

Also got a MiBox today. To replace the Mede8er in the kids' playroom. Setting up was a breeze. DSTV Now, Showmax and Kodi installed and works flawlessly.

Just wondering what one (model) MiBox you got? Which model is actually the latest or best at the moment?

I have a MiBox as well. I think its the Mi3 model

Current issues with it:

No Amazon Prime app available for android TV.
No 5.1 sound from Netflix.

Rest of it works perfect.
