Late to the topic but -

Mark Lanegan and Nick Cave - for the boys.

Kate Bush - for the girls.

Never been a Queen fan, however, Freddy Mercury - what a voice.

As for those already mentioned: Plant, Waits, and above all, Cash. A man who actually lived what he sang about..

With no intention to break the thread:

My voice. In the cold shower. Now in a week long power outage in Pretoria East...

Kudos for finding this. He can sing, after all.

Now just for comparison, here's Eric Benet singing Grandma's Hands with Jeff Lorber. Shows why it is hard to declare anyone "best".

Harry Nilsson, What a powerful and majestic voice.

His original version of this dating back to 1971 is absolutely fabulous.

Magic voice, magic songs, the 1971 record Nilsson Schmilsson record has this as track 1on face B, a record all people need.

Great thread.

Anyway, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle. He has utterly awe-inspiring vocal range.

Chester Bennington (RIP) also deserves a mention. I didn't know how much of a unique talent he truly was until I saw Linkin Park live.
