Box volume
« on: June 25, 2018, 10:27:18 PM »
Hi everyone. Stupid question...if Im using driver x and the calculated box volume is y, do I multiply y by 4 if I use 4 x drivers?

If the port calculation for y is say 25mm diameter x 6mm long how does that change now if Im using 4 x drivers in one enclosure? All 4 drivers are 8ohm so I know Im gonna have to do a series-hard parallel wiring to maintain 8ohm.

Lastly, if one driver has a sensitivity of 81dB how wil 4 drivers affect this?

Hi PJF      the short answers
....yes 4 drivers 4x volume , BUT many times you can get away with smaller total , best to stick in a box calc program (winisd / bassbox or others) and see the effect.         (you need T/S parameters for this)
....parallel gets you extra 6 dB so your example will go up to 87 nominal
.....port is tuning the box not the drivers so once  you got the right / preferred box for the 4 drivers , then port size and length will fall into place.

How's the HIVi 3 way coming along ?
