I love my modest Ortofon quintent red MC. Of all my MC cartridges this one has lasted longer (2 years!!) than previous ones. I  bought a new 33 1/3 and  new pressing of Armstrong's Satchmo plays king oliver and it sounds superb! Now i am worried i may have damaged it because it seems my cartridge is worn out. This evening i hauled out Argus by Wishbone Ash. At the opening stages of Time Was where they are playing acoustic guitar, everything seems to be ok.  Later when the tempo changes and when the lead guitarist  guitar riffs to the end, the cymbals are not as high as i am used to to. It is clear that the cymbals are very low compared to  before.  Yes, sometimes i play "scratchy" recordings if i really like the music. So my question: When do you decide that your cartridge should be replaced?
