Looking for a solid old turntable - less than R1500
« on: June 23, 2018, 07:38:49 PM »
Like so many oldies, a friend of mine wants to play his vinyl again, so I said I'd try to get him a turntable.
I've tried some of the more modern inexpensive stuff and it really was rubbish. I'd be embarrassed to deliver a tt that can't even turn when there's a cleaner on it......So hence I'm looking for a solid old lump like a Technics 1500 or similar, must be complete with arm and cart. Cosmetics, lid etc are irrelevant.

I have a PL200 with an Ortofob cheapy cart (O2m5E - or some other equally un-memorable name)

Hard to beat at the price to be honest, sounds way better than some of the cheaply crap on the market.

I'd prefer direct drive. They are about to retire to Swakopmund and replacement belts are even more of a schlep there than here.

My apologies - it was meant as comment that you could do much worse thank a PL200,  not sales pitch for mine!

Thanks, but I'd rather have the Pioneer PL200 or a Sansui I've been offered.
