Wire for amp internals
« on: May 17, 2018, 04:09:15 PM »
Hey guys!

So with my amp parts arriving soon I am still unsure about the wire for inside of the amp.

I'd like to get at least 2 different colours to make life easier, I reckon 2.5mm CSA should be plenty and then perhaps 0.5mm for the signal input cables, also twisted quite tightly?

I saw at builders they have the below wire, although how decent is it? It is stranded but not many strands compared to what I am use to.

What wire do you guys use and what would you recommend? Would the builders be fine or is there something better for a similar price?

Use tinned panel wire available at any electrical distributor. You can also get silicone tinned wire for a bit more per meter.

So a place like ACDC would stock it too or where could I look? Is panel wire stranded or solid core?

I see you are up North. Pity. I have a wide stock. Fine strand panel wire is very good.

hmmm ... I would steer away from that name unless it is the band, then  :groovy: :Whoohoo:

I dunno where you are but a place like this http://eastrandelectrical.co.za/ is what you are looking for. Google "electrical wholesale supplier" or buy from RS. Their prices are very good I see.

Panel wire is stranded unless you buy the cheap import panel wire from that place you mentioned.  You will require 0,5mm2 or 0,75mm2 or for larger currents up to 1,5mm2
