Clicking sound when pressing brake pedal
« on: March 14, 2018, 08:49:01 AM »
Ok, so I traded my Renault as I was the butt of all jokes here ;D
This morning I heard a clicking noise that I am not sure I have heard before. It comes from as far as I could tell, behind the radio in the dash. The car was idling and in Park. Every time I pressed the brake pedal, I could hear the clicking sound. Is this normal or is it something that can cause issues later on?

Built in lighter is misfiring. Replace the flint or recharge the gas.

Could be the relay switch for brake lights?

That sounds very plausible. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Is auto or man? If auto it could be the relay/servo that releases the gear select when in park.  :nfi:

That's what I was thinking too. On the Audi I can hear a slight clicking sound coming from the gear shifter area when depressing the brake pedal.

But should it then not only click once?

But should it then not only click once?

The brake pedal on most modern cars activates a whole bunch of things, the SRS airbag system and ABS needs to know when the brake/clutch pedal is pressed, so does the engine management computer, there might also be a gear lever interlock solenoid.

I would be worried if it was not clicking......

I have noticed similar on many newer cars, the clicking (should) be less loud, however mass production and a keen set of ears don't help. On mine I try not zone in on it.

As long as it must be there, then it won't bother me anymore.
Thanks for the explanation.

The best solution would be to take it to the dealership, let them explain it and then try another car with the same spec to see if it does the same.

The press-stick that holds the brake-light switch has come undone.  Its a Ford, yes?
Even duct tape can’t fix stupid… but it can muffle the sound
