Getting closer....

Drivers in & wired direct to the back terminals, I'll start with external crossovers, the terminals give me a neat way of accessing the drivers.

Finish, not 100% happy with but I'll wait and see, the wax finish scratches easily, I'll live with it for a month and change if needed.

The color is not as red as it looks in the photos, decent photos on the weekend.

All the fiddly things done, it is amazing how many little things there are to do.

Now I just need crossovers, maybe I'll just buy something off the shelf from Zakspeed  :giggle:

Edit.. just added another pic, darker but closer to the real look (pic1)

Those speakers are really something to be proud of, very expertly constructed. They certainly do not take second place to any commercial speaker of the same ilk.

agreed that it looks great and also agreed that those are some serious drivers - so when you get the crossover right it should sound pretty damn good for what you have

I'm hoping to get some in the box measurements tonight,  :rubhands:, may be slightly delayed as I  need to complete the post woodwork cleanup & check all my connections & kit  to do measurements... and revive the brain.. But I have all the XO components so plan to move relatively fast.

Did measurements on Saturday & XO #1 is soldered & ready to go. Got Flu on Thursday which has slowed me down somewhat. I need some material to kill internal resonances, there are some glitches on the impedance curve as expected, boxes only have dog blanket on some walls.

If all goes well I may be able to put some sound through them tonight / tomorrow night.

I don't expect much from XO#1.. but it will give me a feel for what lies ahead.

WHEW... listening to XO #1 (ish)...

Sounding good... nothing is radically off, drivers integrate well.. my port tuning ended up exactly where I wanted it.. approx 36hz.. you can see a very untidy XO hanging out back. It's currently a straight 3 way, will also try 3.5 at some stage. My XO didn't measure exactly as modelled, not far off but not good enough for long term. But later in rounds I'll get more pedantic.

Placement... plonked down & powered up... and I can hear the front port was a good plan. My box is really haphazardly stuffed, I need to do it properly there is a bare piece of birch ply directly behind the 2 bass drivers .

Great work those cabinets turned out rather good, very nice colour too! The "other" speakers look cool too.
Not really a chicken or a man named Robert, surprised?

things are moving forward... on XO 1.3 and every twist moves me in the right direction. They are sounding good. A few gaps to address, but that's the fun..

Saturday's plan is to look at optimizing the cabinets / bass / room response. Some significant changes happened in the week.

They have some decent competition in the garage but the plan is to develop them in their own right and then compare, both (+1) have different strengths which is interesting.

At last I have reached the fun part of the build!!
