Cheap and cheerful acoustic panels for a school
« on: March 01, 2018, 01:01:36 PM »
Hi all,
I recently volunteered to help do some work for a school group here in Joburg whilst I am doing a visa run, and they are struggling with some crazy echo and reverb. They are in a newbuild that is nice and modern and minimalist, but of course, that means loads of flat surfaces, glass and a flat concrete roof.

Are there any cheap acoustic panels that I could look at mounting on the concrete roof in these rooms to try and damped the crazy reverb?

Thank you!

Go look at the ceiling of The Dome in Northgate. Ivan Lin designed this IIRC. Damn effective with the sort of issues you describe. Rubber mats hung from the roof.

Floor? I'd start there. Difficult In that environment for carpets though!
Sometimes possible to get offcuts. Also curtains are a cheap solution for the windows.

The floor is out of the question I am afraid. It is going to be the roof and that's about it....
