Hi folks

Hoping someone could help me out please. I have tried to figure it out for some time now, but I need some expert knowledge. Apologies in advance for the long post.

I was a happy owner of an Onkyo TX-SR506 (specs https://www.cnet.com/products/onkyo-tx-sr506/specs/), paired with my Jamo Studio S 606 speakers (specs https://www.cnet.com/products/jamo-studio-s-606-hcs-3-dark-apple/specs/), it includes a Jamo 200 sub.

Something happended to the amp, some of the channels would cut out intermittently. I currently have a loaner AV Receiver, a Sony STR-DA1200ES (specs https://www.cnet.com/products/sony-str-da1200es-b-av-receiver-7-1-channel/specs/).

My problem is two fold. The Sony sounds terrible if compared to the Onkyo, both in terms of volume and sound reproduction (Sony is very flat). I am not a "complete" sound amateur, but no amount if tuning could get the Sony to sound right. On paper, as far as I can see, the Sony should outperform the Onkyo, but its far from the case. I would say the Sony has around 60% of the oomph if compared to the Onkyo.

I am currently in the market to get a new AV Receiver. But I am very concerned that my new receiver will perform like the abovementioned Sony.

The two receivers I am currently considering is:
Onkyo TX-NR555 7.2 (specs https://www.audicoonline.co.za/Onkyo-TX-NR555-7-2-Channel-Network-AV-Receiver)
Or
Denon AVR-X1300w 7.2 (specs https://www.audicoonline.co.za/Denon-AVR-X1300W-7.2-Channel-Full-4K-Ultra-HD-Network-AV-Receiver-with-Wi-Fi-and-Bluetooth)

I basically just want something as good (or better) as my old Onkyo. But in terms of specs, it does not make any sense to me why the Sony is performing so badly.

I will REALLY appreciate any advice

Thank you in advance
