anyone know someone senior at CITY of JHB municipality?
« on: February 13, 2018, 11:25:03 AM »
Hi everyone, every few months our water is cut off and we are told that we owe 17 thousand odd on our water, the bill however is for no 2 enslin street which is not our address. So my wifgoes through the motion of submitting proof of payment etc and our water gets put on again after 2 or three days. Its all getting a bit old now and th counter jockey or call centre people say that supevisors do notdeal with the public. We need this rectified but do not kno how to go about it since we only ever have access to clerks and not anyone who can actually sort it out. I am at wits end,and verging on desperate, please does somone have a contact that dould possibly help.
many thanks

just reopen the water supply, it's in the street outside your property.

Cannot do that. They physically remove the meter & blank off both sides of the pipe where the meter connects.

We've been having a similar issue for the last 4 years - our neighbour is a delinquent payer. Our meter is close to his front gate, whilst his is around the corner (his is a corner property). COJ contractors being lazy they never bother to check, and simply disconnect us instead of him, thinking that the meter close to his gate must be for his property.

My neighbour got a R75000 water bill a few months back and they cut off his electricity, as I believe they are not allowed to cut off your water ?. This happens to him monthly. Basically they force you to pay a percentage to get reconnected. This is obviously forcing you to admit guilt.

Do these morons obviously not see that R75000 for a months water is totally out of line ??. Surely they can see his average consumption from the past bills ?

There is no light at the end of this tunnel either.

^^ They can disconnect your water.

Constitutionally speaking we have the right of access to water, not the right to free water.

As such, if one doesn't pay they simply disconnect.

Same story for electricity.

With COJ - once they disconnect you the only way you can get reconnected (for water) is to pay 50% of the outstanding balance.
