Using a Samsung on for Xbox One X, and trust me, you can see it!  Performance hasn't proven to be an issue.

Performance difference between FHD and 4K is way more apparent on the Xbox One X games,  than Netlfix.

Yeah but what size is your Samsung, and/or how close do you sit to it?

All I'm saying is that there are diminishing returns on 4K resolution that are directly proportional to TV size and viewing distance.

According to this graph I should get a 50" so I am quite keen on the LG in this respect and its a Smart TV as well which I will utilize as I have uncapped at home

By the way post prices on your options. Entirely possible someone could point you at a better deal for the money.

the resolution at 43 inches will be a moot point as others have pointed out. I would go for the larger screen. I would also consider forking out a little  more now to get HDR capabilities. the 4k itself is fine but not a massive difference but what it does allow is HDR or 10bit color support which is a big difference in picture quality. This is something that i am glad i paid extra for.

Netflix has more and more content in 4k HDR

I'd recommend LG if it were an OLED display, even with just FHD resolution. OLED displays still have unparalleled Black levels as they don't use back-light, which makes watching TV content with a lot of dark scenes including the annoying black borders not appear grey, especially in a dark rooms.

In this case, both models are LED Displays, meaning both TVs suffer from the same grey looking black issue, regardless of brand.

So the next thing that would bias the options is HDR capability, like others have mentioned, the 10bit color representation allows for stunning visuals compared to the standard 8bit color representation on non-HDR displays, however, depending on your intended usage, it might or might not bring appreciable visual benefits (i.e. for gaming on a high end PC or recent consoles like Xbox One X and PS4 Pro - Highly recommended; for DSTV - not recommended at all; for Netflix - partially recommended depending on your data connection bandwidth).

4k on the other hand, for a 43" TV, I wouldn't bother worrying about it's improvement over FHD, it's too small a TV to see the difference at normal sitting distance, unless you'll be watching it right on your face. I'd prefer the 49" FHD based on size.

If you're open to other options, I'd recommend an OLED TV with HDR! If unavailable within the budget, a FHD OLED is still a better buy than both presented options.

I wanted a bigger TV.
Instead I just moved closer to the TV.
So now it looks bigger than it used to.
Want appeased.

If you are going OLED 4K route, the LG B7 is probably the best buy in ZA: http://www.rendosaudio.co.za/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1388

it has Dolby Vision, which none of the Samsungs have.

The best 4K panels from 2017 are the Sonys, but you can't get them here.
Oppo UDP-203, Cambridge Audio CXR200, PSB Imagine T2 towers (bi-amped), PSB Image C5 centre, Monitor Audio Bronze FX surrounds (bipole), Velodyne Impact 10 sub

Crazy pricing. Makro has the C7, which is a slightly newer model, with exactly the same panel, some minor audio improvements and a different stand, for R30k: https://www.makro.co.za/electronics-and-gaming/lg-55-140-cm-smart-4k-oled-tv-55c7-347503EA

I'd hazard that local stores brought them in at these crazy prices, and are still looking to offload them at a profit to people who are unaware that they are no longer worth that much.

Hi guys, just an update. I eventually ended up getting the 55" Samsung H6400 Smart TV and I am quite happy with my decision.

So ended up slap bang in the middle of your original decision.

neither the Samsung 43uhd or the Lg 55 inch fhd, you went with a Samsung 55 inch fhd.
Good decision in my eyes

Enjoy the new viewing pleasure
