Shooo that's about the ambient volume of a house on a busy street  :giggle: I've got two kids so I need to start at around 65db to go above there noise..
True .. I have a constant “white noise” due to motorway behind me ..

Maybe we can post our home noise levels as well when it's at it's quitest. My place measures around 30db but I think that was at night, will measure again to check..I'm on the edge of the forest, would be interesting to see what an apartment in Joburg measures..

I am fortunate my locality is very quiet.  Plus there is double-glazing all around.  Even with a howling wind outside, shut the windows and doors and all is banished.  You can hear the occasional helicopter coming past carrying tourists around (about 12 per day) but this lasts less than a minute

Loud enough so that someone next to me stops chattering.  I hate it when people come around, ask to listen and then start talking as you start the music.  As if the 3 minute gap between tracks will cause their brains to forget everything they mean to say
Amen to that.

I get 31 dB ambient noise. Great improvement compared to before I had dedicated room where ambient noise was over 50db depending on what’s happening in the house

Aaah already did decibel X thingy ..

So this is what I get out of the box( decibel app and no fiddling with settings ) ...

Conditions :
No sound tv or anything playing anywhere . Just me alone sitting quietly with windows and doors open ..

Explains why you like vinyl - you can't hear the noisefloor.

Is that with the system playing ?
So what is it when the system is off ?
Also how far from speakers did you keep the phone and is it where your “sweet spot” is ?

Sitting in listening position. Doors closed and Aircon switched off. Phone next to my ear when screen shot taken.

I clearly spent too much of my youth in bad nightclubs and fitting subwoofers in cheap hatchbacks which has affected my decibel judgement forever!

I listen to music soft when working in my study, but in my dedicated listening room I want to feel the music in addition to hearing it - however wrong some may feel this concept is. Distortion of the smallest magnitude is a no-no for me so I like loud (probably very loud from what I read in this thread) and totally clear is my preference.

I have a decent dB meter I will take some measurements with, and post again. My meter has an "A" and a "C" scale, not sure which one to use (I think it is C)
