After months of rumours and speculation Sennheiser today officially announced a stunner of a TOTL closed back headphone, the HD820.

Now that is something worth going to Vegas for!

Very unusual design.
Don't think I've ever seen glass on a pair of headphones.
Gorilla glass nogal.

I love it aesthetically as it's closed back whilst still retaining the iconic exposed driver look of the HD800.  I do wonder, however, what it would mean for acoustics.

The glass, unless it's really, really thick, also sits pretty far from the driver so I imagine a lot of the HD800's soundstage will remain?

This thing is not too hard to drive either:

103 dB at 1 kHz, 1V

2V gives 109dB SPL, which means an LG V20 can drive them loud enough to cause permanent hearing loss within 30 minutes.

I'd gladly trade the looks for a more affordable price tag. I've never gotten the hype over looks, headphones are supposed to be on your head and comfortable to wear, unless of course they include a complimentary mirror.....

Some people care what they look like whilst they walk down the street with their cans.

I only wear mine in my dungeon so agree with better prices, it is getting harder to get to hear all the top end cans in one's own system.

Nice problem to have...if you have too many cans cluttering up the dungeon you are welcome to send a few down South...  :giggle:
