I got a new RP3, the one with the 330 arm. i put the Ortofon Black onto the arm set it all up and found it to be noisy. Off I went to Mr HiPhi, setup checked everything and off i go plug it all back in and disappointed again. While at Mr HiPhi we set the cart to the recommended down force and VTA. I did get a set of VTA spacers and decided to try a lower VTA. It was a bit better but still noisy and no vibe. out of desperation i decided to try the Ortofon Bronze, same thing, no vibe. Changed back to the Black and set a tiny bit more down force, low and behold noise was gone and vibe is ALIVE.
I am now convinced that there is no proper science behind these things, it is all Dark Arts.
I am going to get some music muti to make it sound really high end.
