Matrix HPA-3B Balanced Headphone Amplifier
« on: December 12, 2017, 04:21:05 PM »
Details: Up for grabs is this astounding balanced headphone amplifier. It drives any and all types of headphones - incredibly powerful, great detail extraction, and what I particularly enjoy is its full, smooth sound with a hint of warmth.  Have used it with the Sennheiser HD800, ZMF Atticus, Focal Elear, Focal Utopia, Audeze LCD2, and it has worked brilliantly with all - a very versatile amp. This amp was bought locally from CPlan.

Condition: Around 4 months old and in pristine condition (10/10) with the original box, manual, accessories.
Price: Costs just shy of R9k new; selling for R6.5k.
Location: Woodmead, JHB. Happy to ship anywhere.

Summary of key specs below:
- Fully balanced design using carefully selected and top notch components (Alps pot, Wima and Nichicon caps, Noratel toroidal, etc.)
- XLR inputs and comes with XLR-RCA adaptors for RCA sources/cables; 4-pin XLR and 1/4" headphone outputs
- Balanced power output of ~4W at 30ohms / 1.5W at 300ohms / 800mW at 600ohms
- Single ended power output of ~2W at 30ohms / 430mW at 300ohms / 220mW at 600ohms
- Gain switch with three options (5dB / 10dB / 20dB)

Review on Head-Fi can be found here and below some images from the internet. It has often been described as having the same warmth and body as the Cavalli Liquid Carbon but more powerful and more dynamic.

Cheers

That's a lot of amp for the money - serious power.

Should be on anyone's shortlist if in the market for a headamp under R10k.

The output is incredible, especially for the balanced! Raw power at its finest.

Unfortunately, after the NFB11.28 and the impending arrival of my HD6XX's, I don't think I can punish my bank account any further.

Doesn't make it any less of an investment, however. And anyone in the market for a headamp able to drive anything on the market need look no further.

Thanks guys. It really is a great piece of kit.

Would go very well with the balanced Audeze cable for sale (and I am sure a package deal can be arranged).  :dop:

Been a balanced agnostic for far too long ... time to put it to the test.
