Hi,

Mars64 agreed to borrow me his Piano and Kali combo in the new year for a comparison with the Boss and DigiOne. Looking forward to that and will report back.

I would love to have a look at the USBridge as well to have a complete view of the Allo DAC/source lineup.

So happy with the response over here after doing the review! Exciting stuff!

Cheers,
W

Thanks W.
so this is the Sparky + KALI + PIANO 2.1 combo.
a similar case will be available for the USBridge, the BOSS player and the Digione player.
i will share more pics once i have them.

customers will be able to choose acrylic or alu cases when they purchase a player.

That looks good, especially the alu case. Seems going digital with some nice options is going to get very exciting in the Pi environment! After all the reading about the Kali, making a huge difference in sorting the clocking issues with the Pi, roll on new year!!

I purchased the Allo boss dac in June this year.Lol,it was before they stocked a dedicated Pi+Boss case and had to make due with the HiFiBerry one.The service from pishop was simply amazing, highly recommended.I use it in my bedroom setup and it gives enough gain out (2vrms i think) to drive my Leach power amp without a preamp to very good listening volumes.I will definitely be upgrading to the alu case soon. Thanks for this remarkable little dac and i cant wait for version 2.
I was a bit scared of the heat at first and wanted to add a heat sink, but nah, everything's fine as is.

Ps,pishop also sell the Allo beefed up power supply 5v,3amp.

hello Kenvanraas,

thanks for the kind words!
greatly appreciated.

you are using it with a RPI ?

the ALU case has built in heat sink that dissipates to the case body.

thanks

Hi Andre,

Can you use the Boss with another single-board computer than the RPI?

Anything with i2s output and loadable DAC module for i2s format should work.

Hey guys,

the BOSS driver has to be compiled for that specific SBC.
although the source code is available on the RPI github and it requires only a minor change,  regular Joe cant do it.

I dont work for RPI... but why would anyone want to use anything else ?

Thanks

Because from my experience the RPI 3 build in bluetooth and Wifi do not work well together.

It is an option to buy separate but then their are options where you can just get something that actually works without addons.

BT is for a very specific requirement. My son is at varsity residence and he often would like to stream audio from his laptop or phone via Bluetooth to RPI connected to Hifi. I guess he can use the RPI setup as a wifi hotspot but then I am not sure what he will use to stream from his laptop (e.g. youtube sound) or mobile to the RPI. There maybe a way that I am not aware off it. The problem is that when he connects his mobile or laptop to the RPI hotspot then he is off the varsity network. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Andre

That alu case looks absolutely amazing. Will you have a case for the Rpi/kali/pinao 2.1 combination as well?

I have been using the RPI2 with external wifi dongle to avoid the issues I experienced using the RPi3 with onboard wifi. It works extremely well and the sound from the combination is amazing!

I agree with Andre about using Airplay. I did not think I would use it a lot but it actually works very well and I find myself using it quite often streaming directly from the Tidal app on my iPhone. Then when I find the songs I like I will add them to a playlist or favourites and then stream them from Tidal to RPI using Upnp renderer built into MoOde to listen to them properly.

It will be very interesting to hear the difference between the DACs/Combinations and that is why I am happy to loan Wietsche mine to compare.
