Forgive my ignorance  but how can SET have balanced out (other than an SE signal wired to an XLR)?

You do that!

Here's some eye candy to inspire you. No particular rhyme or reason to these - just surfing around the net to see what's out there.
And there's a LOT!

Even some VU meters and something from Monoprice just for Mr. Tenflare...

Simply gorgeous. Gives me plenty of conventions, as well as possible points of diversion.

Right now, I'm stuck on the notion of incorporating a headphone stand into the overall design and how that would integrate without looking "pasted on".

I will post my first drafts tomorrow. For gees.

I would be interested in a ZA amp for sure.
Cant offer any input cause I would just embarrass myself.

One thing that would really peak my interest is if it could be offered in kit form. Got to keep these hands busy.

G - spot on, should have clarified. OTL balanced. Alternatively SET with 300B/2A3

Now we are cooking with gas...

Woo Audio WA6-SE Headphone Amplifier - Single-ended Triode Class-A, All Tube Drive, Output Transformer Coupled High performance headphone amplifier with a separate power supply.

That rectifier tube...and available with a Sophia Princess Mesh Plate 274B as an option.

My favourite spec as per the Woo site: Power output: > 1 watt

That's like Rolls Royce stating power output as "sufficient"... :point:

If we can come up with something an iota as lovely as these, we are good to go!

still in burn in stage but i can already see i need the Princess tube
the LYR has more power but the woo has enough power
odd how the woo makes the DT990's sing, no big difference with the LCD's
but senns and DT's makes a huge difference

The WA6 outputs 1300mW @300Ω - that's why the Senns come alive, 'cos they're being properly driven.
The LCD's require even more current so should also pair well with the Woo, which puts out a "modest" 1900mW @60Ω (LCD's are 70 ohm).

I didn't realise that this was your gear btw - no need to be so coy about it...  ;)
When did the Woo arrive?

Perhaps some styling cues can be gained from this little Chinese number.
It doesn't get simpler than this - easy to make and put together.

Most certainly we will. This is just a baseline. Broad strokes. A good place to start.

A box with valves out the top is so, well, ordinary for a valve amp.

Always thought these were innovative.

That said, these smartly brushed milled boxes cost a bomb in small numbers.
I would run a poll with price ranges.

Then run another for % split case work vs guts.

After building a few you will discover that the transformer and the case cost the bulk of the money.

Imo a headphone amplifier, especially a valve one, that accommodates high Z and Low Z is compromised.

OK, won't high Z be able to also accommodate lo Z?
