I'm dead keen to give those K812s a listen...  ;)
Yes, the one's you nabbed from under my impoverished (at the time) nose...  :point:
Happy to do so.
Would love too have another pair of ears open up to AKG magic :groovy:

That would be awesome - let's make a plan via PM.

Oh, my ears are already open to AKG magic - I love my K612 Pro and K171 MkII

I can offer AKG K812

4k to 6k sounds okay, and we can do a workshop in Cape Town.

Chingy, do you want to do it as a kit DIY project?

I very interested in a DIY kit.
And will offer all the metal support to all interested.
So if we have a design to work from, I'll do processing, cutting, bending and machining that will be my contribution.

That is great news! Excuse my asking, what qualifies you in this respect? I assume this is either your business or hobby?
What do you think of aluminium as a medium of choice?

A South African designed and built tube driven monster of an amp...

I do not quite follow: A monster of an amp - for headphone use, where mostly <2W is required??
Or what kind of power do you have in mind?

Maybe he meant a "monster" amp that will be able to handle any Ohm rated earphones?
Just a guess.

Maybe "monstrously" good sound?

I'm using the term loosely to convey the thought that the amp must be powerful enough to drive almost any headphone.
It should not lack grunt.

Around 2W would be a good starting point...

As well as the fact that it must be visually impressive - big valves!
Lots of them, on a full sized chassis.

Well - it is your amplifier and (expensive) headgear. Lacking grunt; it may just carelessly be capable of >100-times the grunt, leaving your headphones a grunting heap!

With great power comes great responsibility - and a firm hand on the gain knob!

BTW my expensive headgear can handle 15W input (200ms) - 10VRMS signal (28V) peak swing (1.6W RMS into the cans).

I need power.  >:D
