Topic of discussion could be as stated above ^^^.

Let's use this thread to get a view of the general preferred streaming methods mostly to assist newbies, not only to the forum but also to streaming services.

I used Apple Music before.  Deezer for a while.  Tidal when I played with Roon.  Google Play for quite some time and now back to Deezer to play with their HiFi Quality stream.

Apple Music was great while I did not of anything else, better?
I really enjoyed Deezer but moved to Google Play Music because I could buy Google Play Vouchers from Checkers using eBucks.
Tidal's music focus started to annoy me.  That and I missed being able to play South African artists from time to time.

Let's see how Deezer goes.  Will definitely try using LMS a bit with Deezer again.

Deezer because they were one the fist providers to offer this service in SA, hence I wanted to reward them with my moolah as a thank you for not forgetting about us in deep dark Africa.
Deezer has a good selection of music.
Deezer is cheap as chips for decent sound at 320k.

None of the above.  I have more than enough music locally not to need streaming services.  There are also many other sources from which to get recommendations based on what you already enjoy, so no need for a recommendations engine.

I used LMS since early 2000's and switched to Roon once they released Roon Server on  Linux.

Reasons:
  • they built the music interface I've wanted from the outset
  • It's cross platform (except Linux desktop client, which does annoy me)
  • quick as, even with a huge library
  • has a robust transport
  • API for DAC manufacturers to enable direct integration
  • EBU R128 Volume Leveling
  • high quality DSP/convolution engine
  • EQ
  • There isn't anything in the digital audio world that comes close as far as richness of UI and exploration of one's music is concerned.

Weaknesses:
  • has not (yet) enabled user addition/ editing of album reviews, artist biographies etc.
  • only integrates with Tidal for streaming services at present
  • some consider it expensive...I consider it an integral component of my Hi-Fi

If Roon were to disappear the only thing I'd consider as a viable fallback is LMS.
Audiophile: There is almost no other group that prides themselves more on wasting good money on utterly worthless ****, and then trying to furiously blow smoke up their own ass to justify it.

Free your mind...and your ass will follow.
