Welcome.

Ten ideas for marital bliss and conflict avoidance:

1) Don't unpack/unwrap on the day of purchase
2) Put it in the garage for a few days.
3) Arrive home before she does
4) Stand in front of the box while offering to help her with the grocery bags
5) Do this for day 2 after purchase but stand a little further away so she can see a bit of the box
6) Same procedure on day 3 after purchase
7) On day 4 after purchase, expose yours...errr...sorry expose the entire box.
8) Day 5: Remove all throwables/hittables from the area and stand clear of the box and dengage in a bit of chit chat about the drought/weeds on the lawn or what little Johnny did at school to get him expelled for a term.
9) #8 above will distract her
10)Day 6: Make her a cuppa/offer an evening out or whatever and you're home free to unpack and setting it up

Optional: If she asks at some stage, put on a silly grin and say "Oh, thaaaat?!!"

I followed these guidelines over almost 40 years when buying audio gear or expensive imported fishing tackle my pusher recommended.

Good luck.

At the risk of being mercilessly flamed, I don't quite understand why some feel it necessary to have to engage in subterfuge and deceit when buying another piece of gear?

My wife actively encourages me to do whatever makes me happy (within reason of course), and she knows that new or different gear does just that.
I never get the 3rd Degree from her, and she doesn't ask what it cost either!

Yes, I am a very blessed guy, but that said, I do buy her a fair number of things that she wants too - generally corresponding to exactly when I bring that next box home...

By the way, welcome to the madness Mr. Holic!

Skollie is old school

Well, im much older school and i´m married since the last ice age and for me the bying flowers once a week trick works perfectly, also my wife either understands that there´s no way to change a moron or actually has no problems with speakers larger than a fridge put on top of a Fiat 500.

A welcome from me too, only been here a few years but the only forum i still participate in, just because it is a nice place.

Wow, thank you sir.

Thank you from me as well to Ingvar ;D

Truth be told. My late and much missed wife never had any adverse comment about my audio purchases.

Hello.

Oh and Skollie - remember the Golden Rule, never, ever, tell her how much it cost.
