LF: Electrolytic Capacitors for Luxman SQ-507
« on: October 27, 2017, 09:30:50 AM »
Hi,

I think she needs the big capacitors replaced the original ones are still in place from 1969 plus there is a constant white noise slightly audible on both channels and not volume dependent.

2X 1000uf 100V 35mmx70mm Solder Tags (Output side)
2X 1500uf 80V 35mmx70mm Solder Tags (Transformer side)

https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/luxman/sq-507.shtml

Any help much appreciated she is my main amp!

Thank you.

Seems the 1500uF @80V is a problem to source. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also available at Mouser but their site is down at the moment, Mouser is guaranteed to be genuine, eBay and amazon not so much unfortunately.

How about combining 2 caps, a 1000uf and a 680uf.
Mantech has them:
Part No's:

Exact match, 105deg cap.
http://www.mantech.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?Item=83M0258

2200uF instead of 1500uF in PSU is no problem. Also a 105deg cap.

Done.

I would stick to the same capacitance but go higher voltage and higher operating temperature (if at all possible)

Kemet (very good quality)

1000uF
http://za.rs-online.com/web/p/aluminium-capacitors/2271210/

1500uF
http://za.rs-online.com/web/p/aluminium-capacitors/0104427/

I would also check the resistors to ground on the input circuits. A white noise hiss can also be due to a faulty or dry jointed input line resistor.
