DIY turntable belt

I need a new belt for my Micro Seiki which is probably going to take a couple of weeks to get here.. So I was thinking of making my own one to use in the meantime by cutting and joining two shorter belts, has anyone ever done this? My idea is to use rubber cement to join them and then lightly sanding down the joints on both sides, making an evenly flat joint on both sides of the belt.
