Rega Planar 2 vs Rega

I had a shootout between classic Rega Planar 2 (RB-250 arm, glass platter and Audio Technica AT 430e cart)  and Rega RP1( RB-101 arm, plastic platter and Rega carbon cart)  today. The difference was night and day...Planar 2 out performed the RP 1....significantly so.

I wonder if there is any upgrade(s) I can make on the RP1 to enhance its performance to match the Planar 2.....or make it sound better...

Please advise forumites...
