Could we get HTTPS redirect?
« on: September 08, 2017, 06:24:32 PM »
... or is there some strange reason the forum doesn't want to use it?

I'm looking for: type avforums.co.za into browser, get https://avforums.co.za instead, like basically almost every other session based website in the world.

I use Firefox and have set my browser to open the windows and tabs I used when shutting down, it always opens to "https://avforums.co.za". Alternatively, save it as a shortcut in your browser. I guess Kay will decommission the older http://www..... site soon enough.

Shamefully it's on my "frequently used" homepage but sometimes it takes me to HTTP for some weird reason.

I saw in another thread that Kay said "soon" but that was over 6 months ago... I'll just have wait it out then, thanks.

I suppose that means you have browser history switched on...?  firefox - i just deleted all the http: entries and that was that. I checked now, last instance is July10, https.  I just type avf in the address bar, down-arrow once to the Recent Unread Posts.

For chrome there's an extension called HTTPS Everywhere which basically will redirect you if/when it detects HTTPS is available.

Typing 'avf' is quicker than opening bookmark sidebar or menu - much quicker.  Instant search for what's typed in can include history and bookmarks and so on. It orders the search results with the recent history entries first, that's why i just have to hit down-arrow once without looking.
Bookmarks of avforum pages are of specific pages, technical stuff.  Those do come up in the drop-down of search results, but if i ever want one of them, i would open the bookmarks window and search there. I probably never have, I just diligently collect tech articles and so on by bookmarking them with tags.

Completely agree ^ bookmarks are for references, not pages.

Handy, thank you.
