Is it a matter of "processing" power

So I had a few youtube videos on a laptop, which I played through my AVR via HDMI Cable. The sound quality was "great" for the relevant media.
I then decided to transfer the videos to the HDD on my Mede8er 200X, which also plays through HDMI; sound "quality" has taken a huge nose-dive. :help:

Thus, as per subject line, could it be the issue?
