AV setup questions
« on: August 09, 2017, 05:16:24 PM »
I need some ideas on how to power speakers at TV without an av receiver. Would it be possible to use a stereo amp to drive the speakers but have the Explora do the video. Obviously the amp will not have hdmi in and out.

You have 2 options:
- Let the Explora to the D to A conversion and run straight out from left and right Explora's Audio Outs into your amp
- Get a DAC with either coax or digital in, connect it to the Explora  and have the DAC do the D to A decoding. The DAC is then connected to the amp via RCA's.

The Explora still feeds the TV video via HDMI. It will still feed audio over HDMI as well so just make sure the tv volume is muted if you use the stereo amp for sound.

ORRR....if your TV has an analogue out and you have more than one source -  run the decoder (and any other source) to the TV and then run analogue out from TV to any line in on the amp.  That way you never have to change the input on the amp.  (basically Drifter's second option but using the TV itself as a DAC)
