Power cable for a Revox Reel 2 Reel Tape Deck
« on: July 27, 2017, 12:34:37 PM »
Hi All.

Anyone have a power cable for a Revox Reel 2 Reel Tape Deck.  Perhaps from a desk which no longer runs etc.

Would be a rectangular shaped 2 pin kettle plug.

Are you by any chance able to take a photo of the socket into which the power plug fits into?  And the dimensions in mm. It will be easier to identify exactly what is needed then.

Thanks for the picture even better than a picture of its socket. Now know what to look for.

You are Not going to find in S.A !

3 options:
a. Order from Europe,
b. Make your own from car body filler,
c. Change the chassis portion to 3-pin IEC as used on computers (very common)

I have McGyvered IEC plugs for folks a few times.  These plugs cost about R45 tops.

Thanks Man...R270 with freight is painful for a cable...thinking of changing out the female socket to the normal SA kettle socket  :headbanger:

"Figure 8" male socket if you can find it would be a closer match size-wise. And it's 2-wire, like the original.

Thanks Man...excellent idea.

Concerned about what a MALE socket would be though... :ROFLMAO:

Well, it is counter-intuitive - plug/socket gender is given in accordance with internal connectors,
and the plug/socket naming is reserved for what is on cable-side/panel-side, typically.
Hence, all (or most) cable plugs we have in daily use are "female plugs" and their receptacles are "male sockets"

Analogy: One can be endowed with a plug but still be a d00s.
