Spotted down antique row on Long Street, Greymont today.

The proprietor assured me this receiver is NON-functional.

Have a look at the price tag!

Yep, indeed. They look at overseas prices and expect to get these here, does not work that way I'm afraid. At most I would offer R100 for it in an 'as is' condition, it is going to require some work.

This 117V AC/DC model I saw too for, if memory serves, around R1900-00. A small auto-trafo had been fitted in place of resistance cord and the back cover was missing but was guaranteed fully functional. The strange thing is they must be getting these crazy prices because the sets are never on their shelves for long. There was one other decrepit old set for R 750-00 also non-functional and not worth even a second look.

A dealer in 'old junk' told me that he has no difficulty with high prices on 50s / 60s audio stuff since film/tv prop buyers take it no matter what the price, and they don't care if it works or not.
