I wonder if I should just not post this for fear of ruffling feathers, but this is reality so what the hell.
I've noticed used gear in SA is often priced very high, almost irrationally so. For example there is an item for sale in the classifieds that you can ship brand new from Amazon including all duties and taxes to your door for 10% LESS than the used asking price.
I have also been rebuked for making "insulting" lowball offers in the same vein, when I offered what I could source the item for new landed to my door.
Why is this? Is this a remnant of siege mentality from the days of sanctions? Maybe having lived in the US for many years I'm just used to shopping online and we're just a decade behind over here.
I suppose caveat emptor, but we just perpetuate a culture of getting ripped off for gear this way. :facepalm:
