How futureproof is the Soekris DAM1021?
« on: June 19, 2017, 11:53:01 AM »
I intend building a DAC later this year based on the Soekris. Because I am feeling too lazy to do my own reading and thinking, what is the highest sampling rate and resolution the Soekris can handle? In other words can it play the hi-Res formats like MQA?

MQA is not a high res format.

Thanks scrarfussi!

Reading through this tells me that it can handle "up to 24 bit / 384 Khz input from SPDIF, I2S and USB (via USB to I2S interface board)" so I'd say pretty futureproof. Yay

Nothing, especially computer-related components like DACs is really future-proof.  Samsung tried with with their series 8 TVs in that you could update the firmware.  I have updated my TV 3 times now and could not see any difference to the picture or any of the funcionality.  Mind you, I only use it with HDMI-1 input selected

My HDMI cable is 15m long as it has to go into the roof and down again.  Not many different cables available at that length.  I did try a better (read much more expensive) shorter one when the TV arrived, but could not detect any difference
