Sooo pretty!
« on: May 13, 2017, 08:10:03 PM »
Luxman CL32 loaded with 5x NOS Sylvania (US made) 12AX7 and 2x NOS JAN-Philips (US made) 12AU7.

Many thanks to:
FranZar for letting it go,
Sir Alan Hobkirk  :notworthy: who did the initial quality assurance,
Nidri for organising the intercontinental purchase of a couple of missing valves (& Scotty for executing it),
Magnum SA for the "2002" model soldering iron that don't give a damn about this nuts-freezing cold spell
and finally, Dire Straits for today's playlist that sounds unbelievable via this pretty li'l thing and getting better and better as the day goes by.

Now, I just need that amp to complete the minimal Luxman chain...  :whistler:

Yeah, you know I'm talking to you :envy: :angrywife:

 Very rare piece of equipment, is it not?
Recapping of vintage equipment isn't restoration. By definition, restoration means returning to it's original condition.

Oh, what difficult hobby this is. When you hear something new you'll find yourself swapping out or upgrading kit.

I enjoyed my time with the CL32. So easy and reliable... No valve finickyness...

BUT. I always wanted one of these to go with it!!!

What a sound!!! I have listened to this one a few times at the KK boudoir. It sounds like the velvet scatter cushions that Mr Kassler has sprinkled around his den. Smooth and creamy yet detailed with a whisps of lemon...

Great stuff Mike. How does it perform?
On the first power-up it sounded a bit coarse and confused.
So I let it burn in for about 2hrs, switched off, cooled off for about 2hrs, turned it on again, gave it about 15min to warm up and hit the Dire Straits playlist
It was excellent - about 336% better.  :giggle: Bass has gotten better by miles and everything else became much smoother and more detailed. It's VERY good.
Just fired it up again, will give it & the F5 an hour or two before I play the same playlist.

So far Geco SRPP+ with Dulcet are still the clear winners but if CL32 does break-in a bit more (in a good way of course), it might become a tough call which one is "better".
Fortunately, I'm neither obsessed by small differences nor am I running a competition - both are absolute keepers.

FranZAR, plan a visit. It all sounds very different from your setup.
What is the major contributor to that - NOS military tubes or F5/ESLs, or everything by some margin, don't know.
I didn't play it at all with valves you had in because my plan was always to fit the good old stock.

BUT. I always wanted one of these to go with it!!!
Yep, that's the one I was talking about...

Such a pity it does not match the pre....
:faint:        you and I are still negotiating!  :envy:  :angrywife:  Expecting your call...

A visit shall be arranged. I'm sure copious quantities of your vulgar Dutch beer will convince me...

I knew you'd chose vulgar over anything else... it's settled then.
