At some point this year, funds and time permitting, I want to build a Soekris-based DAC, with a valve output stage. When I did elec eng in the 80s, valves only got a brief mention, as the technology was "dying". Well here I am 30 years later going "back to school"

Being an engineer (albeit non-practising for a long time), I don't want to just find some else's design and build it, I want to understand how the things work. I found this wonderful introductory series by some guy called Uncle Doug (https://www.youtube.com/user/Stratosaurus1/featured), who explains in simple terms how valves themselves and associated circuitry (power supply, transformers - power and output etc) - work. i would highly recommend it to anyone, even not technical, who wants a bit of insight. Unfortunately, he can only go so far, so i've had to find some real texts (e.g. http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/Common_Gain_Stage.pdf) to learn how to really design valve circuits. I'm starting with baby steps - working on how to bias triodes at the moment. the ideas aren't vastly different from transistors, but sadly for me I was never an analogue hotshot and didn't do any of that in my technical career.

Can anyone recommend the valve equivalent of "The Art of Electronics"? I'd like a really good text instead of relying on the internet

I want to get my hands dirty obviously, so i'm going to try and get my hands on some bits and pieces, and start with a really simple dual-triode amp (headphone or phono), and go from there.
