I bought a PH12 phono amp kit (to build) from tubes4hifi, pic of assembled kit from the web
Some info on the build is: "For accurate RIAA EQ, the output of each channel should be connected to a 100K or 250K volume control or 250K balance control"
I didn't understand how a volume control that is adjustable could effect RIAA, so I contracted Roy via email and he explained as follows:
